Week 4 learning

Hello Year 5 πŸ™‚ We have loved seeing the work that you have been doing at home this week! We are back in school now so keep posting and we will comment back when we get chance!

Your writing task over the 2 weeks is to research (or use the work that you have already done) the effect that the Victorians have had on our lives today.

Write a letter to a Victorian child, explaining how the jobs that their generation did and the inventions they created are still used over 100 years later.

Science – Forces

Identify the effects of air resistance by constructing a parachute.

Watch the video clip – https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zht2tfr then design and make a parachute that would help Rapunzel escape from the tower. Investigate how to make the best parachute by changing only one variable, for example weight, material, length of strings, size of canopy, shape of canopy and so on. Additionally, use your knowledge from this clip and further research and to design a poster which explains about friction – including the pros and cons – for an alien from another planet.

Geography – Lines of longitude and latitude

Watch and read – https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvsfr82/articles/zd4rmfr and https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvsfr82/articles/zjk46v4

Take the quizzes! Read more on the lines of longitude and latitude and complete the time zone activities.

Finish last week’s task. See https://blog.highfield.bolton.sch.uk/hly5/2020/06/15/week-3-learning-2/

Your task for the next 2 weeks in PSHE is about learning what makes a healthy lifestyle – including healthy eating and the choices you need to make to be healthy and happy.

Research the questions on the game and write them down in your book. Then play the game
against someone in your family! Can you beat them?
